Genetic carrier screening involves undergoing a blood test to evaluate your DNA and determine if you are a “carrier” for any one of several to several hundred inherited diseases, depending upon the test that is performed. Most people who are carriers for a condition are unaffected by the condition, but carrier screening may identify the risk of having a child who will be affected by a serious disease. It can also provide useful information for other members of your family, as they may share some of your genetic material.

Our genetic counselors at Piñon Perinatal can walk you through the available carrier screening tests and help you determine out-of-pocket costs depending on your insurance. We will notify you and your referring provider once results are available and discuss next steps for additional testing, if applicable.
